DESCRIPTION:We have expanded our Trimming and Treating the Lame Cow course! Doug Johnstone from AR-PE Hooftrimming will be joining Dr. Christina Lyn in providing practical hoof care information and hands-on trimming instruction. Common foot and hoof conditions will be discussed in the classroom session\, including diagnosis\, treatment\, and preventative strategies. It will review when to move a cow to the freshening pen\, the signs of normal calving progression\, and when to check the cow and possibly intervene. Common obstetrical problems will be reviewed\, and tips presented on how to correct them. DESCRIPTION:For our first Fall Producer Meeting since stopping the annual tradition for the COVID-19 pandemic\, we are partnering with BC Dairy to welcome all dairy producers to the Chilliwack Curling Club for a full day of excellent education. We are bringing in Dr. Gordie Jones to present on managing heat stress (which has been a huge challenge for dairy cows in British Columbia these last couple year) and new ideas on dairy barn design. Along with these topics\, there will be presentations on Salmonella Dublin\, including a summary of local results of bulk tank sampling\, as well as how to handle an outbreak on a dairy farm.
